Environment

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. It will impact ecosystems and alter our way of life. The scientific community attributes the global temperature rise of the last century to a measurable increase in greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere, with the combustion of fossil fuels (primarily oil, natural gas, coal) being considered the main cause.

In 2021, the CEO of RK Logistics GmbH had the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of the company calculated. The carbon footprint amounted to 60 tons.

The positive outcome of the CO2 footprint calculation prompted RK Logistics GmbH to offset the remaining CO2 emissions for the years 2021 and 2022, thus becoming a climate-neutral company. In this endeavor, RK Logistics GmbH received support from the Zukunftswerk eG, based in Berg am Starnberger See (www.zukunftswerk.org).

The Zukunftswerk eG purchases Certified Emission Reductions (CER) emissions certificates, which are the only type certified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), for the purpose of emission offsetting. These certificates are acquired and then retired.

Simultaneously, the initiative advocates not only offsetting CO2 emissions but also supporting institutions actively engaged in climate protection and sustainable development in voluntary climate action. This is achieved by linking the acquisition of emissions certificates with a voluntary donation to a non-profit organization.
